Mission:
Episode Three: A Dark Window
Location: Off the Black Cluster
Timeline: Stardate 93945.46
I was fully aware of the dangers passing the Black Cluster. I've read the logs of U.S.S. Enterprise from stardate 45397.3 of their experience with this particular specimen and the destruction of the U.S.S. Vico.
I've also requested and received an analysis composed by Starfleet Science of the safe passage of this cluster and followed it to the letter.
But it seems that it wasn't sufficiently accurate.
We have been experiencing a major energy drain on the ship's systems as we got near the phenomenon and my midnight wakefulness, as well as that of Lieutenant Essex and Lieutenant Karlsson put us in the position to resolve it before the ship would sustain a severe damage.
Nox's idea was somewhat unorthodox, using torpedoes with calibrated yield to break us free and using Lieutenant Karlsson's skilled piloting to sling us free.
I've decided to add additional 0.2 LY to our passing radius, even if it'll take us more time to reach Deep Space Three.
We still experience some sensor problems and pay have blown several EPS relays in Deflector control, but we'll have to face this music on the morning.
