It seems that the field around the planet, aside from being entirely organic, is a one way ticket.
On the bright side, the sub-space communications still work, which may be a clue to work with.

Caution has been a great friend to us, having Commander Dion's shuttle stay on the other side, until we've tested the waters, so to speak.
Being so, they are working on a way to assist us from outside.
Though frankly, I feel that the answer will be lying on the surface, ours to find.

To conserve power and salvage something from our predicament, Lieutenant Trea landed the shuttle on the surface and is having us deploy our gear and assess the our surroundings.
