Science Officer's log,

Through my memory of this recent event is fragmented due to infection from the local plant life these are the events that I recall. The Captain ordered the away team down to the planet to conduct research operations. While the camp was being setup Lieutenant Commander Nox and myself came across two interesting discoveries. The first being the planet was in a very fast rotation of it's star. Leading to a quick change between day and night, the next was a patch of flowers. These flowers turn out to be the reason for this log. One class of them which I name Mario X01, a red flower that emitted a strong smell. Different from the other flowers in the area the Mario X01 flowers grew at a faster rate and gave off the strongest smell. My plan was to use the DNA of this flower to attempt to create the base for new medical hypo sprays since the spores given off had a fast rate of delivery to several areas of the body. However the unintended effect was the spores ability to infect the host's mind, allowing for controlled emotions to overrun the host. During my experience which as previously stated I only have a limited memory of it seems the base Vulcan emotion of angry and distrust came out. Since I have no direct memories of this I will continue to the next memory that I have. Which is after I found a care, using a Vulcan mind meld with Commander U'zeeta I apparently was able to form a anti spore fighting agent the made use of the plant's own spores to attack the natural ones. This agent was sent throughout the ship to kill and remaining spores. The crew seems to be fine now however as Chief Medical Officer I decided to impose a twenty four hour medical leave to all crewmembers that came in direct contact with the flowers. After some reluctance from the Captain my order was carried out. I seems now that all long term effects from the event are gone the crew has returned to its former healthy self. I retain a few samples of the flower in a statis container in the Science lab for further study, I will transfer these specimens to the Starfleet Science command the first chance I get. I suggest a warning beacon for the planet to warn other ships from interacting with the flowers as longer infection would have caused death.
