Mission: Episode Eight: Esau and Jacob
Location: Deep Space
Timeline: Stardate 94039.51

The Cychreides is currently under repairs to restore warp speed beyond warp 2 and seal the breaches in its hull.

The mission to escort the U.S.S. Dawn was a success, in any parameter, but has cost us a life of an officer, Ensign Smith, seven wounded crew-members and heavy damage overall.

The system we were to enter was that of a blue super-giant star surrounded tightly by a huge field of asteroid and planetary debris.
The Dawn's systems, being a Nova-class ship, were no match for such a mission, but her deflector array were perfectly suited for the scientific survey of the star, once inside the field.
The way in was slow and meticulous, paving a safe path for our little sister, while avoiding the heavier objects and volatile gas deposits.

Once inside of the system the majestic view of the super-giant was revealed to us, as well as a wealth of astrometric data.
While the Dawn took her readings we continued our survey around the system and soon enough, just on the other side of the super-giant, found the reason for the heavy debris in this system.
A white dwarf star accretes matter from its larger brother and is just about to go Nova.

Our readings estimated a full eruption to be in less than seven minutes, so we sped to the Dawn to warn her of the impending cataclysm.

But the Dawn had no chance to escape in time under her own engines, so we locked a tractor-beam on her and brought her into our shields, just below our ventral hull.

Returning to the point of our entry, we saw that the initial gravitational eddies started shifting the debris in the field and essentially closing our way out.
So we diverted all power to shields and weapons and just blasted our way out.
The punishment that the Cychreides took was heavy, but still we were making a slow progress to escape in time.

Lieutenant Dovok's suggestion to blow a shuttle behind us saw a type 10 shuttle put on a very short self-destruct and ejected us screaming out of the field, where we were just barely able to go to warp out of the Nova's reach.

I am glad to report that the damage to the Dawn was minimal and she was able to resume her mission after just a few hours of repairs.

For us, however, it will be days before we'll be able to return to an acceptable level of functionality.
The U.S.S. Endeavor was kind to lend us her assistance, though I assume that they'll be returning to their mission sooner than we will be back on our feet, so to speak.

But we've dome our duty and we can only be proud of the outcome of these events.
