Mission:
Episode Two: Soup kitchen
Location: Space
Timeline: Stardate 94966.97
The Cychreides is underway again and most impotently - in one piece.
The Engineering and Intelligence departments managed to isolate the source of the drain in the warp core of the Cychreides and lure it into the warp core of one of the shuttles.
Meanwhile, we've managed to complete the analysis of the gas giant and correlate the findings with the readings from the warp core, reaching a conclusion that it's composed of beings that feed on energy and comprise the mass of most of the planet. In a way similar to the Grate Link of the Founders, only in gaseous form.
This brought us to a conclusion that the community of the gas forms has been growing hungry in the face of their energy source gradual depletion and on of their numbers jumped ship while we still had our shields down - to feed on the abundance at our core.
Having sent the being back to its source, while sacrificing yet another shuttle, we managed to avoid the gravitational pull of the odd binary system and left the systems, leaving alert beacons for other visitors.
This is one of those events when you consider the Prime Directive against the possibility of saving lives and must, as a Captain, make the right decision.
I hope that Starfleet and Alliance Science branches would be able to find a good solution to achieve both on day, based on the information we've provided.
