The XO and Ensign Trea's plan work.
The shuttle returned to Cychreides, having penetrated to some extent into the field, without triggering an alarm.
Perhaps it is a measure to avoid constant alerts due to an inter-planetary debris - objects that have no EM signature.
But a close inspection revealed an extensive radiation damage.

The logs have been analysed by the small science team on board and a hypothesis was proposed by Ensign Vazix.
A pulsar, at on edge of the field, that feeds EM flux and radiation through a series of transponders, on the circumference of the barrier.

He also ventured to suggest that the field would be weakest at the pulsar itself, as means to stabilize its field will counteract the draining process.

Wasn't there an earth poem or a story about a bug that came to close to the flame and got burned?
